Termite Pre-Treatment Protection


Strand Termite & Pest Control has been performing new construction termite soil treatments for builders throughout our service area for over 40 years. We provide this service to national builders, custom builders and homeowners.

What is a termite soil treatment?

Termite treatment standards vary depending on the type of new construction. For example; monolithic slab, raised block slab, beach house, crawlspace, or a combination of these construction types require termiticide application to the areas where the structure meets the soil. The volume of termiticide required to be applied depends upon the construction style.

A termite soil treatment service includes treating all the soil below slab construction homes, treating all the soil around plumbing penetrations, all the soil below dirt filled porches, all the soil below slab garages, all soil adjacent to the interior of crawl space foundation walls, around piers, inside all voids, and the exterior perimeter of all construction types once the final grade of soil has been established.

Do I get a warranty?

Once the structure is initially treated, a one year warranty is provided to the builder. The warranty starts the day the first treatment is performed. Strand also offers an additional four year warranty to the homeowner that covers the cost of replacing any termite damage or treatment cost during the contract period. (A minimum 5 year warranty is offered on all new construction homes.) Please note that the property owner must maintain the warranty by allowing for annual inspections and paying a yearly warranty renewal fee. Homeowners will be contacted by a Strand representative explaining the details of our extended warranty programs as well as additional services we provide.

Products

Strand Termite & Pest Control uses brand name termiticides such as, Demon TC, Talstar One, and Termidor. These products are backed by leading manufacturers in the Industry and applied by our highly trained staff.
Bora-care pre-construction termite treatments are an approved “stand alone” termite treatment for new construction buildings. This has been approved by both the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and by the Southern Building Codes Congress International since 1999. The Department of Pesticide regulation in South Carolina has also Bora-Care as a “stand alone” termite treatment.

BORA-CARE PRE-TREATMENTS

Why treat the wood?

There are times during construction when a standard soil treatment cannot be performed due to poor weather. The Bora-Care treatment process will allow the builder to continue working with out lost time. In addition, >Strand can perform the service without interrupting the building process and provide the property owner with a repair warranty.

What do we treat? When do we treat?

This service requires the treatment of all the wooden members in the structure that come in contact with the slab from the slab two feet up. Including interior partition walls, interior foundation walls, attached garage, and exterior foundation walls.

This service is to be performed once the "dried in" stage of construction is completed. The structure is framed, exterior and interior walls are in place, and the roof is on. No house wrap on the exterior, no showers or tub units are to be installed, no insulation in the walls, no electrical or plumbing in the walls until the wooden members are treated.

Treatment to all the wooden members in contact with the slab will be applied from the slab to no less than 24 inches up. These areas need to be accessible and items must be moved away from the areas to be treated, prior to treatment being performed.

Strand must be notified in a timely manner in order to complete this treatment.

(Same day notice may result in delayed service due to prior scheduling.) Once treatment is completed, the construction process can continue without interruption. Any additions or alterations to the treated areas will require additional treatment. Please notify our office if this occurs.
